While I'm not the intended target audience for YA, I often find them better than so-called adult fiction, especially when it comes to romance. This book has a great plot that kept me reading, and characters I could empathize with. Kayla (Michaela) is a strong female lead, and I like that, and am glad to see more books that have it (perhaps this genre is for teen girls?). Her "sisters" are less well-developed, and there's no good explanation for Briana's actions; I won't say more so no spoilers, but I hope it is explained in later books, as this is the first in a series.

Have to say it was hard to put down, as the plot races along, with the main characters getting in and out of tough situations, and finding (and losing, in some cases) help along the way, as they also learn more about themselves and the Chimeara Project that created them. These are no ordinary teenagers. There are a lot of unanswered questions, so I am hoping the next volume comes out soon (that said, I know from some experience that a sequel can be hard to write, unless it's all mapped out ahead of time. Don't believe me? Look at George R. R. Martin and how exceptionally long the period between the release of each book in the Ice and Fire -- Game of Thrones on HBO. The first two books promise, on the back flap of the dust jacket, that the next book will be Dances with Dragons, but of course it wasn't...).

I had some of the same problems as other reviewers. The romance between Mouse and Jake happens abruptly and unbelievably. More lead-up would have been nice, although it may have slowed the plot. Perhaps it should have come in the second book? The other problem I had was with some of the writing. This is going to sound really picky, I know, but here's a grammar rule for English, no matter what country it is spoken in: prepositions take objects For example, "between you and I" is incorrect; "I" is a subject form. The correct version is "between you and me." Had a preposition occurred once with a subject pronoun rather than an object pronoun following it, it wouldn't have bothered me. But every time there are pronouns after a preposition, they are objects. It drove me crazy, and it may cause younger readers to do the same thing. I know, I know, we hear it on TV, in movies, but it is wrong. A good editor would have fixed it. This is my primary problem with self-published works: poor editing. There are good pro editors who don't cost a fortune. If you want a book to sound first class, it's worth the price of a good editor, who may also have pointed out some of the plot problems, like the instant romance and the few slow spots.

Despite my picky criticisms (and I know, they're picky and pedantic, but hey, I taught English, I can't help it!) I am looking forward to the next book in the series, mainly because aside from a very few slow spots, it's compelling, and so are the main characters. It's definitely worth the price.

I must say this is an excellent novel and VERY well written! Its full of great action! The people born of spliced genes and their abilities, I find is very fitting to the story. This story kept me on the edge of my seat, waiting to see what would happen next. I was very disappointed when I reached the end! I am very much looking forward to the sequel! I recommend this book for everyone to read!
I bought this based mostly on the cover but, seriously, zoomed through it in one sitting. It was GOOD!! Ms. Hawkings does an excellent job laying the groundwork to what I hope will be an incredible new series. I'm partial to monster books and you combine that with dystopia/post-apocalyptic biopunk and it's a sure-fire winner in my books! For an indie book it had few errors - the editor did a great job there!

Action and adventure and world-ending odds and one heck of a cliffhanger... I can't wait for the sequel!!!
I read this book with an open mind, thinking it would rival James Camrens Dark Angel. TSP surpassed Dark Angel by going with the modern simple theme of teenage Girls on the run.

While the story drums out on an end of the world crises and and jumps between action sequences it would make for an an excellent screen play.

My favorite qualities about these girls is that they don't hate their enemies, but they are not afraid to protect themselves.

To me the book only lakes stable conflicts. Granted, it is the first book of what I believe is 3 or 4 books, Kate Hawking is a very skilled writer and will quickly rise up to become distinguished if she settles on her target market.
Hawkings has a great way of building suspense. I was on the edge of my seat this whole book. These main characters are badass and they really know how to get stuff done! I really liked reading this story, it flew by so quickly! I wanted it to be longer. The action and all the developments and science fiction to me was really cool and intriguing.

I think it could have benefited from just a tad more character development. I knew the girls' names and their "trademarks" but I would have liked to know more about Kayla and what made her tick. I really liked Mouse.

I am excited to read more of this series. Instead of post-apocalyptic like a lot of the things I've read, it's really apocalyptic, like all this crazy stuff is happening and I keep wondering if it's all connected or what. I would have liked some more answers--I feel like she raised a lot of questions but didn't answer hardly any! I'm not sure how to feel about this ending. Very cliffhanger-ish, so I will definitely check out the next one.
